“Deep Tech business creation” coordinator

What is the PUI?

The “UT Innovation” PUI (University Innovation Cluster) is a programme aimed at boosting and coordinating the actions and initiatives of various players in western Occitania to promote the development of collaborative and technological research, transfer and Deep Tech entrepreneurship. It is led by the University of Toulouse, with executive support from its two founding members, TTT and the Nubbo incubator. 

TTT is the Technology Transfer Acceleration Company (SATT) for western Occitania, founded in 2012 within the scope of the Investments for the Future Programme. The role of TTT role is to invest in the maturation (technical, legal, marketing) of public research laboratory results, in order to facilitate and grow transfers to the economic sector. At present, TTT includes around forty people and has helped create close to forty Deep Tech startups since it was founded. 

At TTT, the business creation hub is particularly involved in helping assess the suitability of business creation as a way to introduce a technology onto the market, and subsequently supporting business creation projects to completion. Its role falls within the context of technology transfer from the academic laboratory, and the tailored support offered to project leaders ranges from project ideation to development up to an advanced stage (assistance with team formation, approval of product/market pairing and initial business model possibilities, sizing the future startup, etc.), so that the project can lead directly to creation. This approach has been formalised in a pre-incubation programme, led in close cooperation with Nubbo. 

The business creation hub also leads awareness and support initiatives targeted at researchers, PhD students and early-career post-docs, in order to generate further opportunities and vocations in this area (Doc d’Occitanie programme, “creation Tuesdays”, StarTTTup Club, Lanceur d’étoiles, etc.). 

Job description

Under the supervision of the head of business creation, and in coordination with the head of the pre-incubation programme at Nubbo, the successful candidate shall:

• Support Deep Tech project leaders individually by implementing the pre-incubation programme co-led by TTT and Nubbo and update it if needed,
• Implement the Doc d’Occitanie programme,
• Respond to internal requests from TTT’s market hubs once a creation opportunity emerges, by confirming the suitability of the approval process through business creation,
• Participate in the assessment of the suitability of taking up shares in supported startups, and propose exit strategies.
• Lead business creation awareness initiatives aimed at the targets mentioned
  above (PhD students, post-doctoral researchers, students, etc.)
• Take part in various panels for awards organised by our various partners
  (Pépite Ecrin, Ad’Occ, Catalyseur, etc.)
• Facilitate the community of Deep Tech startups originating from TTT 

Skills required:

Hold a master’s degree or higher, if possible in a scientific discipline, with proof of significant experience in valorisation/technology transfer through Deep Tech business creation or in a Deep Tech startup incubator, or involvement in creating a Deep Tech business as a founders associate and/or with previous coaching experience with Deep Tech entrepreneurs.

Self-starter, detail-oriented, and creative, recognised for your abilities to stay on course and meet your objectives, while being able to adapt to other parties’ specific needs. Ability to  engage others, communicate effectively, work as part of a team, with a quality professional network.

Desired experience:

• At least 5 years, some of which as part of a Deep Tech startup
• creation of a “Deep Tech” business as a cofounder

Position: 

Permanent contract – located in Toulouse – salary based on experience
